Panama COC Documentation

Holding a Panamanian Certificate of Competency (CoC) is a significant asset for seafarers aiming to expand their career opportunities. As Panama is home to the largest registered fleet of ships in the world, a Panama CoC is highly respected and widely recognized by many flag administrations globally.

However, in accordance with the latest policy from the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), new assessments and the issuance of initial Panama CoCs have been discontinued. As per the current circulars in force, Panama will only process:

• Renewals of existing CoCs
• Upgrades for officers who already hold a valid Panama CoC

Seafarers who already possess a Panamanian CoC are therefore encouraged to ensure their documentation remains up to date to maintain their eligibility for service on Panama-flagged vessels and other accepting flags.
