Train The Simulator And Assesor 6.1

Scope:


The scope of this course is provided according to the minimum requirements established by regulation I/ 6, section A‐I/6 qualifying instructors, supervisors and assessors in the use of simulators used for teaching. This course is designed to comply with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers, STCW1978, as amended.

 

General Objectives:


After completing the course the participant will be able to acquire the skills necessary for compliance with the International Convention on “Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers” STCW 1978 as amended, according to the requirements of regulation I/6, section A‐I/6 qualifying instructors, supervisors and assessors in the use of simulators used for teaching.

 

Prerequisites


Besides having basic knowledge of computer systems and IMO regulations, students must have also complied with the section A‐I/6. of the STCW Code.
The instructor qualifications and experience play an important role as its application to any course. Although not only understood implicitly but also a seafaring background is a must. However, a seafaring background alone cannot be considered sufficient.

What is needed is an aptitude for maritime simulator studies and an ability to transmit knowledge. If you see the level of maritime courses, i.e. courses for personnel offshore (short / specialised), personal Maritime Navigation (Advanced), maritime safety / pollution prevention (management) company personnel Shipping in the long course or training certificate courses, one appreciate the potential instructor will have to amalgamate his / her practice seafaring background with knowledge of pedagogy to be able to transfer knowledge.

Ideally, those entering the course have had some experience in training, although those who are about to enter the profession would also be suitable. The balance of new entrants to experienced participants affect the nature of the course and the instructor should be aware of this aspect well in advance. It is also recommended that the student has completed the IMO Model Course 6.09‐ Instructor Training Course or a similar program in which the underlying concepts and principles of pedagogical processes are discussed.
