Ship Security Officer 3.19

Scope:
This course meets the requirements of knowledge that must have the person to be appointed to the tasks and responsibilities of the ship (SSO) security officer, as it is defined in Rule VI/5, section A‐ VI / 5 y tableA‐VI/5 of the International Convention on standards of training, certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers STCW/78 as amended, Chapter XI‐2 of SOLAS 1974 as amended and paragraph 2.1.6 and 12 of the ISPS code, part A.

General Objectives:
Participants who complete this course should be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities of the SHIP SECURITY OFFICER, as defined in the International Convention on standards of training, certification and Watchkeeping for seafarer’s 1978 as amended which include, but are not limited to

Regular inspections of the company with regard to the protection of the ship to ensure that protective measures are properly maintained.
Maintenance and monitoring of the implementation of the Plan of protection of the ship, including any amendment to the plan.
Coordination of aspects of protection of the cargo handling and warehouses of the ship with other personnel on board and the officers of protection of the port facility.
Propose amendments to the agenda for protection of the vessel.
Report to the company for maritime protection officer any deficiencies identified during internal audits, periodic reviews, security inspections and verifications of compliance and implementing any corrective action.
Enhance knowledge and monitoring of the protection on board.
Ensure adequate training to staff on board.
Report all incidents regarding the protection.
Coordinate the implementation of the agenda for protection of the ship with the official protection of the company’s maritime protection and the relevant with the port security officer of the installation.
Make sure that protective equipment is properly operated, tested, calibrated and maintained.

Prerequisites
It is assumed that students who attend this course will be seafarers on active (or other personnel on board) who have chance to be appointed officers for the protection of the ship. However, it is planned no specific income requirements.
